Collins Lumber Corporation has joined CEO YouthBuild as a community partner. The YouthBuild program provides teens and young adults GED preparation and education and training in the construction field. As a community partner Collins Lumber will invite a program graduate to join our workforce as an apprentice. We also hope to provide the students with additional training support by including them in training seminars and workshops, and helping with further job placement.
On August 25th there was a groundbreaking ceremony held at 722 4th Avenue in Lansingburgh for an energy star home the students of YouthBuild will construct from the ground up. In attendance were Troy Councilman Clem Campana, Congressman Paul Tonko, Assemblyman Ron Canestrari, Secretary of State Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez, Senator Roy McDonald, Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino, and HVCC President Drew Matonak.
Collins Lumber has been family owned and operated in North Troy for over 120 years. In looking to the future of not just the company, but the community in which we work and live, we think this is an important partnership between CEO YouthBuild and Collins Lumber. The building materials and construction industries have a vast array of opportunities at hand. These industries need young, motivated talent to rise through the ranks and contribute to future generations of development and growth. CEO YouthBuild offers our youth the skills necessary to do so. Together, I know that CEO YouthBuild and Collins Lumber can make a lasting impact on the development of the community and the youth of the City of Troy.
